Geeking Out

This week we’re intrigued by details on Marvel’s 2014 film and a kung-fu movie directed and written by RZA, as well as Isabella Rossellini’s educational short videos about bees and an indie album to inspire girls in STEM fields.

  • RIP, Nora Ephron. While not everyone is a big fan of the clever, talky rom-coms for which she was well known (When Harry Met Sally), her wit and scope of talent have influenced a whole new generations of young female auteurs.
  • The Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC is now out, so if you were unsatisfied with the ending of ME3, check it out! It promises more answers and… sigh, closure.
  • Ryan Reynolds is the new Highlander? We’re not quite sold, but intrigued?
  • Valve’s Pyromania culminated in TF2 players finally getting to “Meet the Pyro”, and since there has been speculation among fans that the Pyro is the lone female character, it was nice that the mask stayed on and the mystery remained intact.
  • Joystiq takes a close look at Nintendo’s Wii U. We’re digging the Pro controller: finally, dual control sticks!
  • Talk of Marvel’s 2014 big screen release points to… Guardians of the Galaxy. Thoughts?
  • Her Universe, fashion for the discerning sci-fi ladyfan, has unveiled their new line of Doctor Who apparel.
  • Indie darlings Mates of State cover Guided by Voices on an album meant to inspire more girls into science!
  • Love these science and sci-fi vinyl wall decals and laptop swag from Cut N Paste.
  • Our resident horror movie buff Lois is excited about the trailer for “found footage” flick V/H/S.
  • It wouldn’t be fair to just leave it at that, so enjoy Flavorwire’s list of some of their favorite/scariest movie trailers!
  • Lois is having childhood flashbacks, having in the past seen the first short film on this list of unintentionally creepy educational videos.
  • Isebella Rossellini made some waves and gained new fans through her delightful and bizarre Green Porno series that explored sexual habits of some under-appreciated critters. In her new series of shorts, Rossellini offers a hilarious yet educational take on the life of the bee.
  • The RZA wrote & directed a kung fu movie! We reserve our judgement until after we’ve seen the flick, but it’s at least intriguing!
  • Portal LEGO set! Let’s do this thing!
